The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) has announced that travelers can expect lane closures on Interstate 15 (I-15) due to the ongoing widening project aimed at improving this major thoroughfare. According to a notice by the NDOT, paving operations are underway and will affect both northbound and southbound traffic between Las Vegas Boulevard (Apex) and the Garnet Interchange northeast of Las Vegas. This construction activity necessitates daytime hours for pavement to properly cure, given that high temperatures are necessary for durable, quality paving, with current and upcoming restrictions impacting traffic flow.

Effective Sunday, April 13 through Saturday, April 19, both directions of I-15 will see lane reductions 24 hours a day, specifically confined to two lanes between Las Vegas Blvd and the Garnet Interchange, as detailed in an NDOT announcement. The department has also released a lookahead to future restrictions: come Monday, April 21, northbound I-15 will be pared down to a single lane until Friday, April 25 between the hours of 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. and subsequently, the southbound direction will experience similar restrictions from April 28 to May 2, during the same daily hours.

Additional traffic constraints are scheduled for early May, with Las Vegas Blvd facing lane reductions underneath the I-15 overpass on Monday, May 5, and Tuesday, May 6. This is all part of a larger tapestry of work extending through until the end of May 2025, where intermittently, both northbound and southbound I-15 as well as Las Vegas Blvd beneath the interstate will encounter lane reductions as these infrastructures are bolstered and expanded to accommodate greater traffic flow.

Motorists are encouraged to remain vigilant through work zones and if it's a possibility, to seek alternate routes to avoid the affected sections of I-15, the NDOT advises the public to stay informed on planned highway restrictions through updates provided by Waze and other real-time traffic information platforms—the schedule is however subject to change, weather permitting or on account of unforeseen factors.
