U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Laredo Sector apprehended five individuals at the I-35 Checkpoint during a recent operation aimed at preventing human smuggling. Late Monday, a red tractor-trailer was selected for a secondary inspection using the Multi-Energy Portal after the driver consented to a closer examination at the checkpoint, as reported by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
After conducting a physical inspection of the vehicle, agents discovered five individuals hidden inside and detained them for illegally entering the United States from Mexico. The incident occurred during the late hours, a time when traffic is lighter, and some may attempt to avoid detection. The individuals were taken into custody and will be processed according to their immigration status, with Homeland Security Investigations overseeing the case.
Border checkpoint operations highlight the ongoing efforts to manage illegal immigration and the complexities of securing national borders.
