Commuters in south Columbus faced delays yesterday morning following a collision that caused significant disruption on US-23 near I-270. According to a social media post by the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, the road has now reopened after a fuel spill was cleaned up, resulting from the crash involving a semi and a pickup truck.
According to reports, the incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. when the driver of the pickup truck, attempting a U-turn to head north on US-23 past I-270, was struck by the semi-trailer. The crash resulted in a punctured fuel tank, causing a large amount of diesel to spill onto the roadway. Both drivers involved were confirmed to be uninjured.
The Columbus Fire Hazmat team, upon arriving at the scene, addressed the hazardous materials situation, aided by Capital Towing. The semi's owners were also involved in the containment and repair efforts, focusing on the leak and a damaged tire. It took multiple crews about four hours to tackle the spill, effectively removing all traces of the diesel.
