There's still time for aspiring young architects to register for the Popsicle Stick House-Building Contest, an event organized by the Inspections Department as part of the 2025 Building Safety Month celebrations. According to an announcement on the Town of Wake Forest website, registration will remain open until April 21.
The contest, which takes place at Town & Country Hardware on April 26, challenges participants to creatively construct a house from popsicle sticks. Contestants are categorized into three age groups: 7 and under, 8-9, and 10-11. It is noted that the design, including painting and decorations, is entirely up to each builder to freely imagine and execute.
The day of the competition, which runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., will see young participants deliver their creations for judgement by the Inspections staff, who will begin evaluating entries at 2 p.m. Winners, as mentioned by the Town of Wake Forest announcement, will be declared promptly at 3 p.m., with one victor from each age bracket alongside one overall grand prize winner.
Prizes include $100 for winners in each age category and $200 for the grand prize recipient. Additionally, all entered houses are set to be showcased on the Town of Wake Forest's social media platforms, allowing a wider audience to appreciate the ingenuity and craftsmanship of these young builders.
