Waller County, Texas, is the site of a newly announced manufacturing facility by TMEIC Corporation Americas. The project involves a $65 million capital investment and is expected to create 62 new jobs. TMEIC, which stands for Toshiba Mitsubishi-Electric Industrial Systems Corporation, is a Tokyo-based company. The expansion aligns with the region’s existing presence in advanced manufacturing and energy-related industries, as confirmed by the Governor's office.
The $65 million investment by TMEIC Corporation Americas, supported by a Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF) grant of $368,838, focuses on the growth of the energy sector. Governor Greg Abbott highlighted that Texas is a hub for advanced manufacturing and energy innovation. He noted that this investment will create 62 jobs in Waller County, with an emphasis on the state's skilled workforce and favorable business environment as key factors in attracting global investments. TMEIC, a Japanese company known for its work in industrial automation, motors, and photovoltaic inverters, has selected Texas for its new facility.
TMEIC Corporation Americas' President and CEO Manmeet S. Bhatia emphasized the role of local partnerships in the company's decision to invest in Waller County, stating, "Collaboration with the State of Texas and Waller County has been instrumental in facilitating our decision to invest in this region by fostering a pro-business environment and a robust manufacturing ecosystem." in a statement obtained by the Governor's office. He recognized the Texas Enterprise Fund grant and a local property tax abatement as important factors in the decision. Waller County Judge Trey Duhon acknowledged TMEIC’s investment as a positive outcome of the partnership between Mitsubishi and Toshiba. Wall Street Economic Development Partnership Executive Director Vince Yokom also highlighted the impact of Governor Abbott's support for local economic development and the strengthened relationship with Tokyo.
This expansion highlights Texas' continued leadership in America's industrial growth, reinforcing its status as a top destination for foreign direct investment (FDI), particularly from Japan, which has been a significant contributor to job creation through FDI projects in the state over the past decade. In July 2024, Governor Abbott led an economic development mission to Tokyo, further strengthening the state's ties with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. This strategic move has paved the way for TMEIC to expand its presence in Texas. The foundation for this partnership was laid with a Statement of Mutual Cooperation signed in 2020 by the Governor’s Texas Economic Development & Tourism Office and Tokyo's Bureau of Industrial and Labor Affairs, aimed at supporting Tokyo’s small and mid-sized enterprises in expanding their operations to Texas.
