The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has issued a request for help from the Washington D.C. community to identify a suspect involved in a felony threats offense that has been classified as a hate/bias incident. According to the report published on the MPD's website, the offense occurred on the night of March 20, 2025, in Northwest D.C.
Around 9:54 p.m. on the aforementioned date, the suspect directed homophobic slurs and hateful language towards two individuals at the intersection of 6th Street and H Street. After the verbal abuse, threats of bodily harm were issued by the suspect towards one of the victims before they fled the scene. A video capturing the suspect on surveillance cameras has been released by authorities, providing a crucial link for the public to potentially identify the individual involved.
The MPD has placed a reward of up to $1,000 for information that could lead to the arrest and indictment of the suspect. They have stressed that the public should not approach the suspect but should immediately call the police at (202) 727-9099, or send a tip via text message to 50411. The case has caught the attention given its potential link to hate or bias, elevating the urgency for a community-assisted resolution.
Investigations into the incident remain ongoing and the MPD's Special Liaison Branch is playing a role, evidencing the sensitivity and complexities of the crime. It's important to note that being investigated as a hate crime by MPD does not ensure prosecution under the same classification, as the determination can change as more information is available.
