West Memphis, Arkansas, is grappling with a severe flooding crisis following heavy rainfall. As reported by WREG, the city saw more than 10 inches of rainfall overnight, prompting water rescues and road closures. West Memphis Mayor Marco McClendon emphasized the event's rarity, stating, "This is a little uncommon because this is a generational, catastrophic, unprecedented storm, but we weren’t prepared for this."

Emergency services have conducted over 100 rescues, rescuing individuals from the rising floodwaters that have overwhelmed the region. According to a FOX13 Memphis report, Mayor McClendon described the situation as impacting "all of the whole entire city." In the same coverage, volunteer Tyler Campbell, who has been conducting boat rescues with the Crittenden County Search and Rescue, shared an emotional account, saying, "Heartbreak. Every time."

For those displaced by the floods, temporary shelter has been provided at the Roberta Jackson Neighborhood Center. To assist the affected residents, the American Red Cross has stepped in, offering necessary resources to those in need. The Regional Communications Manager for the American Red Cross, Scott Marder, assured continued support, "We’ve just opened up a shelter here in West Memphis for people who don’t have anywhere to go," as stated in the WREG interview.

Recovery efforts remain vigorous, with aid from neighboring cities and various volunteer groups intensifying the response. Struck by the storms, 8.39 inches of rainfall left streets underwater in West Memphis. Some people had to deploy boats to reach their homes, and the city officials reported more than 110 residents had been safely rescued, pressing concerns for additional rescues looming. As ABC24 relayed from a city statement, first responders will carry on tirelessly to ensure everyone's safety. The statement read, "We continue working to make sure everyone gets the help they need. We’re incredibly grateful to our neighboring cities and the Red Cross for stepping in early and standing with us during this time."
