On a routine traffic stop last Thursday, Whitman Police apprehended 42-year-old Matthew R. Luddy on charges related to drug trafficking. The stop, which occurred on the evening of April 17, initially began over a minor traffic violation, but quickly escalated when it was discovered that Mr. Luddy was operating the vehicle with a suspended license, as reported in a social media post from The Plymouth County Sheriff's Department.
Digging deeper, officers found a bag containing four plastic baggies of methamphetamine, totaling approximately 24 grams, in addition to one glass pipe and one digital scale. These discoveries led to the subsequent arrest of Luddy, as detailed in the Plymouth County Sheriff's Department post. Despite the gravity of the situation, it's worth noting that charges against suspects are merely allegations until guilt is proven in a court of law, a principle that undergirds the American justice system.
Luddy now faces several charges, including operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, subsequent offence, window obstructed, non-transparent, and trafficking in cocaine/methamphetamine weighing 18 grams or more. The aftermath of the stop and his arrest culminated in an arraignment at Brockton District Court, where he was given a court date and is currently being held in custody awaiting further legal proceedings.
The Whitman Police Department, with the assistance of the Plymouth County Sheriff's Department, emphasized its commitment to the safety and security of residents. Their joint statement reflected the ongoing efforts to crack down on drug-related activities within the community, showcasing the vigilance of local law enforcement in such matters.
