A harrowing scene unfolded outside an elementary school in the Astoria section of Queens when a car, driven by a 35-year-old woman, reversed onto the sidewalk, hitting three pedestrians, including two children. According to ABC7 New York, the incident occurred at around 5:30 p.m. yesterday, at the intersection of 37th St and 35th Avenue, and it resulted in Salmata Bah being charged with reckless endangerment, reckless driving, and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
Police reports indicate that the three victims, a 7-year-old girl with a broken femur and head injury, a 14-year-old girl with injuries to both legs, and a 58-year-old man with leg injuries, are all in stable condition as of today. FOX 5 New York added that all three victims are expected to recover from their injuries.
The 2014 Nissan Versa that Bah was driving, as identified by authorities, was at the center of this disturbing event. Eyewitness accounts from the scene described a chaotic aftermath, with school officials and nearby parents rushing to assist the injured, while emergency services made their way to the crowded locale. Bah reportedly remained at the scene following the crash, and investigations into her actions leading up to the incident are ongoing.
