Woodstock's quaint downtown district is poised for a shift in parking dynamics come June, as the City Council's recently approved paid parking plan goes into effect. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, this decision arrives on the heels of extensive consultations with local business figures determined to ameliorate long-term parking issues near their storefronts, a move city representatives hope will both increase access to these businesses and alleviate traffic snarls.
Implementing this initiative means roughly 15% of the area's public parking - translating to around 300 spaces - will transform into zones with time restrictions, contracted out to Pivot Parking to spearhead management and enforcement, which will mark a distinct change in how residents and visitors interact with the space, promoting higher turnover rates and, as such, ensuring a rotation that invites newcomers while bidding adieu to those who've lingered beyond their welcome.
Under the new system slated to start on June 1, drivers will find themselves navigating an ecosystem that, while offering the first hour on the house, will see them parting with $2 for every subsequent hour, capped at the second and third hour with this pricing structure in place seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. This financial strategy is designed to support not only the enforcement of these regulations but also the continued upkeep and future expansion of parking facilities, as WSB-TV reports.
Despite these paid parking additions, Woodstock officials emphasize the continued availability of nearly 1,700 free parking spaces, which include the City Center East Parking Deck, boasting over 630 spots.
