Wright State University has been recognized for its outstanding support of veteran and military-connected students, snagging an award from the National Veterans Leadership Foundation. At a symposium dedicated to military-connected academia, the university's Veteran and Military Center (VMC) was spotlighted for its innovative programs catering to this unique student population.

With a nod from the National Veterans Leadership Foundation, the university was awarded the Excellence in Programming for Military-Connected Students Award. According to an announcement on Wright State's newsroom, this accolade is in part due to the creation of the Captain Shawn L. English Champions Garden and its associated Student Champion program. This initiative educates faculty, staff, and peers on best working with and supporting their veteran and military-connected colleagues.

"We are heartened by the National Veteran Leadership Foundation's recognition of the programming and work that we have done to expand the Veteran and Military Center these past two years," Seth Gordon, Ph.D., director of the VMC, told Wright State's news team. His sights are now set on fostering an inclusive environment for military families, acknowledging the importance of extending support to military spouses and dependents.

The Champion's Garden and its ethos, "We are each other's champion," encapsulates the nurturing community at Wright State for those who have served. Here, the garden is more than a space for reflection. It's a testament to the strength derived from communal support. Veterans, family members, and the university's staff all find recognition within this verdant oasis, symbolizing their shared role as champions for one another.
