Yuba City resident Thomas Michael Davis, 39, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on March 13 for the alleged receipt of child sexual abuse material. The indictment, which was unsealed following Davis's arrest, details accusations of him using the internet to download child pornography between May 2023 and January 2024, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Davis, who has a previous conviction for sex with a minor, faces up to 40 years in prison and a $250,000 fine if found guilty of the current charges. The case was developed through efforts by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office and the Sacramento Valley Hi-Tech Crimes Task Force, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles Campbell leading the prosecution. Davis is presumed innocent until proven guilty, and sentencing, if convicted, will be determined by the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Davis's case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a national initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to combat child exploitation and abuse. The initiative, led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, focuses on investigating, locating, and prosecuting those involved in the sexual exploitation of children. It also works to identify and rescue victims, as stated by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
