A 15-year-old from Long Beach has been arrested on suspicion of murder following a fatal shooting that left a 51-year-old homeless man dead and another person injured. According to a KTLA report, the Long Beach Police Department announced the arrest, which took place on Thursday, a year after the incident occurred on November 24, 2024.
Long Beach homicide detectives identified the teen as the main suspect in the shooting which took place in the 2600 block of East Ocean Boulevard, near an homeless encampment. Officials have not yet released a motive for the shooting and the case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office next week for filing consideration, as was stated in an update provided by the Long Beach Police Department's official website.
When officers first responded to the scene in the early morning, they discovered two victims with gunshot wounds to their upper bodies. The surviving victim was found with non-life-threatening injuries and was treated before being transported to a local hospital. Suggs, however, was pronounced dead at the scene. In a narrative provided by Hoodline, it was noted that the names of the victims were initially withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The Long Beach City Jail processed the accused before transferring him to Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall. The teen is currently being held without bail. The community was urged to contribute any further information they might have regarding the incident to the Homicide Detectives Ethan Shear and Kelsey Myers at 562-570-7244, or submit anonymous tips through "LA Crime Stoppers." Information can also be provided via the "P3 Tips" app or through visiting the LA Crime Stoppers website for those who prefer the discretion.
