Ford Field was alive with the sound of classic rock as AC/DC brought their "Power Up Tour" to Detroit yesterday. The venerable rockers performed at a sold-out venue, with an electrified crowd of 45,000 fans -- many donning iconic band tees and red blinking devil horns. According to ClickOnDetroit, among the attendees were Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell and his wife, Holly, who were captured on video rocking out to the band's hit "You Shook Me All Night Long."
As expected, AC/DC stuck to their classic sound, giving fans exactly what they came for. The Detroit News called it over two hours of powerful, riff-heavy rock, featuring favorites like "Back in Black" and "Thunderstruck." The night was also special as it was Brian Johnson’s first Detroit show with the band in ten years.
Holly Campbell's social media post not only spotlighted the fun they were having but also added a personal touch to an event that bridged generations of rock fans. Sports Illustrated highlighted Campbell's well-known taste for heavy music, mentioning that Metallica is typically his go-to for game day hype. In an indirect mention, the site recalled a statement where Campbell expressed his eclectic music preferences, "But I would say most of it probably stays with Metallica. Master of Puppets is a go-to, Enter Sandman. Believe it or not, I also like classical music. I like the soundtrack from The Last of the Mohicans. That's my old throwback movie. I love the violin, I love the cello. So, that kind of gets me going a little bit."
AC/DC delivered a no-frills show, performing in front of a basic wall of amps and simple video screens. The setlist followed a familiar pace, packed with fan favorites. A standout moment came during "You Shook Me All Night Long," when Brian Johnson gave a local twist, singing, "knockin' me out with those Detroit thighs," as noted by The Detroit News.
With Ford Field gearing up for a busy concert season, fans can look forward to a series of performances ranging from Post Malone to Stevie Nicks.
