Residents in Albertville should prepare for a major infrastructure overhaul as CenterPoint Energy announces an extensive natural gas upgrade this summer, starting in early June and expected to last for approximately two months. According to information from CenterPoint Energy, the project will focus on updating the natural gas infrastructure along Main Avenue NE and 56 Street NE, ensuring enhanced safety and service reliability for the community.
Multiple contractors will be working on the renovations and CenterPoint Energy has taken steps to reassure homeowners, stating "Employees of authorized contractors will have CenterPoint Energy identification cards," a precaution that aims to maintain security and transparency, yet with such a large-scale project, there's always a risk of complications among the many teams involved in the construction process, this measure is an attempt to mitigate potential confusion and safeguard homeowners' privacy. To prevent any accidental damage, residents are advised to mark private lines like sprinklers or dog fences using visible materials such as spray paint or flags, as the utility company will also be marking public underground utilities.
In terms of the changes residents can expect, CenterPoint Energy will replace old plastic mains with modern ones, which involves boring underneath roads, and will manage service line and meter work, which includes removing sidewalk panels and boring service lines to houses. "After the service work is complete," the utility will handle restorations, stated on the CenterPoint Energy website, though temporary backfill like dirt or gravel may be used until permanent restoration can occur.
A noteworthy impact of the construction will be on traffic flow with Minnetonka Boulevard reduced to a single lane and manned by flaggers, while Tonkawood Road will see temporary closure, detours will be established as a countermeasure and while residents will retain access to their homes, other disruptions such as parking restrictions and sidewalk closures are likely, interruptions to everyday life are inevitable during infrastructure works like this. Questions regarding the project and its effects can be directed to CenterPoint Energy’s communication specialist via email or phone, details which are available on the project's bulletin.
