Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools has confirmed that Randolph Middle School Principal Jennifer Schroeder was suspended with pay as of last Tuesday, in what's becoming an opaque administrative shake-up raising community eyebrows. While the WBTV report released employment records confirming Schroeder's suspension, the district has stayed tight-lipped about the specific reasons leading to this decision. Sending ripples of concern through the parent body, the school communicated that Schroeder would be "away from campus at this time," a phrase all too familiar and equally unsettling as it echoes language used previously in similar situations at other schools.
Serving since 2024, Schroeder's abrupt leave of absence has left many questioning the transparency of the district, especially in light of recent events at Ardrey Kell High School, where parents were kept in the dark about their principal's suspension until media leaks. Schroeder, who previously led Crestdale Middle School before her tenure at Randolph, is a long-standing member of the CMS community, having joined in 2004. The Charlotte Observer reports that no specific details were provided to parents other than a vague acknowledgement — a trend seemingly growing within the district.
In the interim, Janice Davidson, a seasoned administrator within the CMS system, will step in to support Randolph Middle School along with Assistant Principal Dr. Micah Griffith. Jennifer Dean, an assistant superintendent, stressed in her message to families that the administrative change "will not affect the daily operations of the school." However, given the recent pattern of undisclosed principal suspensions, this assurance falls on an increasingly skeptical audience, a feeling surfacing amid conversations among the school's parental community.
The district's handling of these cases has drawn criticism, with calls for greater openness echoing through the school hallways and creeping into forums among the discouraged parents. As detailed by a parent's shared email with WSOC-TV, the communication from CMS skirts directly acknowledging the suspension, instead opting for a softer touch that shadows the essence of the situation behind a linguistic veil.
