As temperatures climb and we inch closer to the peak of summer, the allure of a backyard pool becomes increasingly irresistible. But while they serve as an oasis within the confines of our properties, they necessitate stringent safety measures to safeguard the community, especially the little ones who may wander perilously close to the water's edge. The City of Apple Valley has issued a reminder that in-ground pools and those under 4 feet in height are required to be encircled by a barrier, specifically an approved barrier standing at least 4 feet tall.
These measures are not mere suggestions but critical requirements aiming to prevent accidental drownings. On the flip side, above-ground pools that boast walls towering over 4 feet are considered self-enclosed, yet when they're not being used, their ladders or stairs need to be secured or removed, as detailed by the City of Apple Valley. Each precaution forms part of a larger, collective effort to maintain a safe environment.
Temporary pools must be stored away correctly before November 1. Ensuring compliance extends beyond individual vigilance; it becomes a community watch affair. Residents observing pools that flout the mandated safety measures need not hesitate to reach out to Code Enforcement. “If you have any questions regarding these or additional pool requirements, or to report a pool that does not meet the noted barrier requirements in your neighborhood, please contact Code Enforcement at 952.953.2571; or by email at [email protected],” the City of Apple Valley stated.
