The Arizona Diamondbacks are tapping into nostalgia, with a modern twist, reintroducing purple and teal to their uniform lineup. The team unveiled their 2025 City Connect uniforms on Monday, which feature the 'Serpientes' wordmark across the chest, now in teal set against a purple jersey with a snakeskin-like pattern. The ensemble pays homage to the team's inaugural colors and reflects the state's heritage with a reimagined Arizona flag on the sleeve and the number '1998' subtly dual-color printed to also represent Arizona as the 48th state, according to 12 News.
The D-backs first baseman/designated hitter, Pavin Smith, hinted that the hat might just be the standout element of the new jerseys, an assertion confirmed by the donning of Serpientes-emblazoned purple and teal headwear during the uniform reveal. One leak preceding the official announcement showcased cleats and a belt in the same colors, adding to the anticipatory buzz for the rebranded gear, which was picked up by social media and fan forums. According to Arizona Sports, several players, including outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Randal Grichuk, previously sported Serpientes-inspired accessories.
These newly designed uniforms are a complete overhaul from previous looks, representing an evolution of the D-back Diamondbacks' aesthetic, as suggested by team President and CEO Derrick Hall earlier in the year. "Purple> Red. We should wear these more," Diamondbacks' ace pitcher Zac Gallen voiced previously on social media, a sentiment that resonates with the fans' long-standing clamor for a return to the purple era, ditched in 2006 for a red remodel, as noted in the Arizona Sports article.
Coinciding with the uniform announcement, Chase Field got decked out in purple illumination as a teaser. Sneak peeks and leaks circulated on social media in advance, including an eBay listing of a very similar design that surfaced last month. The Diamondbacks will debut their City Connect jerseys on the field on Friday against the Los Angeles Dodgers, joining other MLB teams such as the Houston Astros and San Francisco Giants, who have also revealed new looks for the season, as reported by Arizona Sports.
