The city of Arlington is preparing for a reflective evening as the Arlington Veterans Park Foundation gears up to hold its second annual Memorial Day Service. The event is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, May 26, at Veterans Park, specifically by the recently dedicated Memorial to the Fallen. As reported by the City of Arlington, this monument has become a place of remembrance for Arlingtonians who made the ultimate sacrifice in the nation's wars.
True to the soul of Memorial Day, the service will "focus on the sacrifice and patriotism of the fallen," paying homage to over 100 men from Arlington who have died in conflict throughout the 20th and 21st centuries. Among them, heroes such as Colonel Neel E. Kearby, a Medal of Honor recipient, and Preston F. McKee, once an Arlington mayor, receive special recognition. Running across the park's sprawling landscapes, the Memorial to the Fallen is a steadfast testament to their courage.
Distinguished attendees at this somber occasion include U.S.A.F. Chaplain Molly Hayes, who will deliver remarks, Congressman Roger Williams, alongside Arlington Mayor Jim Ross—a Marine Corps veteran himself—who will also address those gathered to remember the fallen.
