Atlanta motorists are getting a bit of relief at the pump, as gas prices in the metro area continue to dip below last year's figures. As reported by FOX 5 Atlanta, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas is now $2.87, representing a decrease of 53.2 cents from the same period last year. The trend aligns with the national average, which also saw a drop this week to $3.08 per gallon.

Even considering a $4-per-barrel hike in oil prices recently, industry analysts, including Patrick De Haan from GasBuddy, predict stability in fuel costs. "Forty states have seen average gasoline prices fall over the last week," De Haan told FOX 5 Atlanta, suggesting that "I don’t expect any significant changes to the national average, with prices staying near their lowest seasonal level since 2021."

Georgia's gas price average reflects a broader downward trend across the state, with WNEG Radio reporting an average of $2.88 per gallon. According to AAA, "Crude oil continues to trend under $80 a barrel, and demand appears to have slowed down, contributing to lower pump prices," Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA-The Auto Club Group, noted.

In neighboring markets, there's been a mixed bag of results. Macon saw prices fall to $2.80 while Chattanooga experienced a small increase to $2.64. Having seen its national average for a gallon of regular gasoline decrease by 3 cents, to only $3.13, the stage is set for Americans to potentially enjoy reduced costs during the summer months. Meanwhile, the OPEC+ announcement concerning a production increase in June could widen the surplus of supply, as reported by WNEG Radio, causing a continuation of the downward trend in crude prices.

On the alternative fuel front, electric vehicle (EV) owners face slight increases in public charging costs. According to WNEG Radio, the national average per kilowatt-hour at public EV charging stations edged up two cents last week to 36 cents.
