Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta is set to receive a $300 million upgrade to its Plane Train system. As reported by FOX 5 Atlanta, the improvements aim to enhance the airport's transportation infrastructure and efficiency. Ana Maria Taroco, ATL's Assistant General Manager of Planning & Development, stated, "Having this will really improve the customer experience and make sure they get to their gates on time."
The upgrade includes 73 energy-efficient train cars and a new tunnel beneath the domestic terminal to improve turnaround efficiency, as detailed by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The new cars incorporate modern technology to ensure uninterrupted passenger service, with the airport planning to serve up to 12,000 passengers per hour.
In addition to the train cars, the system will feature a new power distribution room and a train control room to improve safety and reliability. These upgrades come as part of the airport’s efforts to accommodate growing passenger numbers and improve overall service.
