As Austin gears up for the next home game featuring Austin FC against El Paso Locomotive FC, fans are encouraged to consider an alternative means of transportation to the Q2 Stadium. In a bid to ease traffic congestion and encourage fitness, Austin FC has promoted biking to the stadium, with a convenient bicycle valet service at hand to sweeten the deal.
The recent developments in infrastructure have made biking to the stadium not only feasible but safer than ever. According to a City of Austin post, "protected bike lanes have been added to Rutland Drive," allowing safer access from the south via McKalla Place. Additional strides have been made with the extension of protected lanes along Kramer Lane, which now connect to the existing bike-friendly routes on West Braker Lane from the north. Topped off with a new shared-use path as part of the Red Line Trail project, cyclists have to little worry about navigating traffic as they approach the Q2 Stadium.
The bicycle valet parking offered by Austin FC is a straightforward service that adds a layer of security and convenience for those who opt to arrive on two wheels. "Simply present your bike at the valet and take a ticket. Stadium staff guard your bike in the enclosed valet area while you enjoy the match," the City of Austin notice details the easy-to-use process. After the game, fans can retrieve their bikes just as smoothly by presenting their ticket.
With the match set for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff tomorrow, May 7, cyclists should plan to be visible as they commute back after the game. The reminder issued by the City of Austin stresses the importance of wearing "bright/reflective clothing and use lights — it will be dark by the final whistle." This guidance aims to safeguard bikers as they journey home post-match, ensuring their visibility to other road users in the twilight hours.
