The Barrow County Utilities Department is set to shift its operations to a new address come next week, leaving behind its old spot on Hwy 211 NE. Starting Monday, May 12, residents looking to handle their utilities affairs will need to make their way to 59 Lee Street in Winder, officially marking the department's relocation.
Before setting into its new home, the department's current offices will shut down at the end of business tomorrow, leaving the community with a one-day gap as staff transfers over to Lee Street. According to an announcement published on the Barrow County website, customer service representatives will not be available during the moving day, which is on Friday, as employees relocate the equipment needed to keep the department running.
Chris Yancey, the Barrow County Public Works Director, is offering an alternative for those who usually pay their bills in person. A temporary drop box will stand ready at the old office site. "For citizens who prefer to pay their utility bill in person, a temporary drop box will be available at the old offices. However, customer service representatives will only be available at the new location," Yancey explained as per Barrow County website.
For residents keen on avoiding the physical payment trek altogether, options abound: the department's website hosts an online payment system, automated bank drafts are at their disposal, and the phone line at (770) 307-3014 remains open, allowing bills to be settled via call. Operating hours for the Barrow County Utilities Department, spanning from Monday to Thursday, remain fixed at 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day.
