Bellevue's commitment to eco-friendly transportation has not gone unnoticed as the city's vehicle fleet was recently honored with a top ranking by the National Association of Fleet Administrators. Recognized for their innovative approach to fleet management and sustainability, Bellevue's fleet secured the 22nd spot among the best in North America, according to a city press release. This places them above any other Washington state organization featured in the yearly roundup of the top 100 fleets.

The award-winning criteria include an organization's progressive efforts to embrace electric vehicles and to innovatively minimize greenhouse gas emissions. Bellevue has been working actively to install more charging stations in support to gradually convert its fleet to electric power. In a move to lead by example, the city aims to transition half of its light-duty vehicles to electric by the year 2030, and by 2040, they strive to have all such vehicles run solely on electricity.

"This award validates Bellevue’s investments in environmental responsibility and helps solidify our reputation as a high-performance organization," City Manager Diane Carlson lauded her team in a statement made by Bellevue's official news announcement. The city's Fleet and Communications division is responsible for nearly 1,000 vehicles, ranging from fire engines to police SUVs and smaller cars.
