Yesterday, Benicia High School faced a threat of violence on its campus, prompting a temporary lockdown across multiple schools. The Benicia Police Department received an alarming call regarding a potential threat at the school and swiftly coordinated with the Benicia Unified School District to secure Benicia High, Benicia Middle School, and Mary Farmar. As per Benicia Police Department, the department revealed that they conducted a meticulous search and deemed the threat unfounded.
Despite the chaos, the Benicia Unified School District clarified in a later update that all students were accounted for and remained out of harm's way. The police are investigating the source of the false threat, aiming to unearth the motive behind such a disruptive call. There was never a suspect on the loose or an active threat detected on the premises. As a precaution, students in PE were brought into a secured space, ensuring their safety.
Amid concern, the Benicia Police's swift action and the school's preparedness were evident. Superintendent Damon Wright thanked the police department for their "outstanding" response and support. Further emphasizing the importance of accurate communication during such times, he addressed the issue of misinformation spreading through social media channels. "We want to ensure you have the correct information," Wright stated, per the Benicia Unified School District.
