Boston's District A-1 Community Service Office recently made an educational visit to a CCD class in Charlestown, bringing with them a message of safety for the young students of St. Mary's and St. Francis de Sales Churches. The initiative, part of the Boston Police Department's outreach to local youth, featured officers distributing BPD Safety Coloring Books and providing safety advice pertinent to everyday situations faced by the kids. As noted in the official BPD news release, the gathering aimed to foster a sense of community and education.
Engaging with the community in settings beyond the precinct, officers handed out coloring books that filled with important safety tips alongside crayons. According to the officers, the interactive materials not only serve as educational tools but also help bridge the gap between the police and the Charlestown youth.
While explaining the danger of speaking with strangers or the importance of crossing the street attentively, they offered these as both lessons and color-drenched activities, aiming to engage kids regarding their personal safety in a way that's approachable and even fun.
