On a recent Sunday in Mattapan, Boston Police officers from District B-3 made several arrests and recovered multiple firearms after heightened patrolling in Harambee Park. According to the official Boston Police Department news release, their vigilance was a result of an arrest involving a firearm just the hour before.
Around 5:00 p.m., officers took notice of two individuals who appeared to be concealing objects near their mid-sections and whose behavior grew increasingly suspicious as they looked over their shoulders and eventually fled the scene. Despite the suspects evading capture, police were able to recover a 9mm Glock with nine rounds and a Glock 45, with an obliterated serial number including fifteen rounds, in the surrounding area. The B-3 detectives are currently investigating the incident.
The situation escalated by 6:08 p.m., when officers entered the playground area and witnessed a crowd dispersing as reports of a gun being fired emerged. Police identified and pursued an individual who was walking awkwardly with a bent waist, which led to the recovery of a Taurus GX4 firearm from his waistband. This individual, a 16-year-old male juvenile, resisted arrest and during the process, assaulted an officer with a shod foot. He will be facing arraignment in Dorchester District Court with charges including possession of a firearm without a license and assault.
Later that evening, close to the park, police intervened between two groups in a confrontation. They noticed two individuals who had connections with the earlier arrested juvenile, both of whom attempted to evade officers. One was quickly apprehended after a chase, resulting in the discovery of a concealed Sig Saur firearm in his backpack. A 17-year-old male is expected to face multiple firearm-related charges at his upcoming arraignment. Additionally, Olimpio Pires-Braun, age 25, was arrested on charges of trespassing, his arraignment is also set for Dorchester District Court.
