The City of Boston has filed a lawsuit against the Trump Administration over federal funding conditions tied to the Continuum of Care (CoC) program. City officials say nearly $48 million in funding, used to support efforts against homelessness, is at risk unless Boston agrees to new requirements set by the federal government as per the City of Boston website.
The disputed conditions are linked to Executive Orders that the city argues are unrelated to the purpose of the CoC program. The funding supports local nonprofits assisting over 2,000 households, with services that include housing, health care, and counseling. Organizations such as Metro Housing | Boston and Pine Street Inn rely on these funds to employ more than 125 staff members.
Boston officials state that the conditions could impact critical services. The lawsuit, filed in the federal Western District of Washington, is supported by seven other jurisdictions, including King County, WA, and San Francisco, CA.
