Capers Scott Hammond, 35, of Bradenton, has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for receiving and possessing child sexual abuse material. U.S. District Judge Steven D. Merryday also ordered Hammond to pay $5,000 in restitution and a $30,000 fine. Upon release, Hammond must register as a sex offender.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office release, Hammond pleaded guilty on February 13. A search of his apartment revealed seven images and four videos of child sexual exploitation on multiple electronic devices. The court ordered the forfeiture of the devices, which included an iPad, three thumb drives, a MacBook, a custom PC tower, and an iPhone.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Abigail K. King. It was part of Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initiative launched in 2006 to combat child exploitation and abuse.
