A Brooklyn man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the fatal stabbing of a woman in a 2019 incident outside his Sunset Park residence. Sheng Mao Chen, 48, received the sentence in connection with the case, which involved charges related to domestic violence.
Details from the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office described how Chen’s lethal outburst followed a period of harassment against Xiu Rong Zheng, 46, whom he had an extramarital affair with. Zheng was slashed 35 times in what Gonzalez called a "deeply disturbing case of domestic violence." According to the investigation, the affair had come to an end, but Chen responded with months, of harassment, not only targeting Zheng but her husband as well.
The sentencing took place after Chin was convicted of first-degree manslaughter on May 1. The conviction resulted from a bench trial before Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Danny Chun, culminating yesterday in Chen's sentencing.
The incident on July 22, 2019, was witnessed by Chen’s teenage son. In addition to wounds to the heart, Zheng suffered several defensive wounds, an indication of her attempt to defend herself. She died at the scene. Following the attack, Chen fled the state but was caught in Indiana during a traffic stop, which led to his return to New York to face justice.
The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Ernest Chin and Senior Assistant District Attorney Tara Kelly, with Assistant District Attorney Leila Rosini overseeing the Homicide Bureau.
