Buckeye police are gearing up to join forces with a national campaign aimed at ensuring motorists strap in for safety. According to an announcement on their official website, the Buckeye Police Department will be partaking in the Click It or Ticket National Enforcement Campaign starting May 19 and continuing until June 1. The initiative is not just about enforcing the law; it's about spreading the word on just how crucial seat belts and proper child restraints can be when it comes to surviving a car crash.
The local efforts have been bolstered by a significant grant from the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, which has awarded the department $10,000 to help comprehensively support this high-profile traffic safety push. This grant is intended to cover the costs associated with additional enforcement, which means Buckeye officers will be able to specifically target seat belt and child seat violations more aggressively than usual.
It seems this push comes none too soon. Citing the Arizona Motor Vehicle Crash Facts Report, the Buckeye Police highlighted startling statistics—the loss of over 1,300 lives in 2023 traffic incidents within Arizona alone, with nearly 28 percent of those fatalities being individuals unrestrained by seatbelts or age-appropriate car and booster seats.
An official statement from the Buckeye Police Department expressed gratitude to the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety for "its ongoing support in our education and enforcement efforts to improve driving habits and keep our community and our roads safe."
