Chaos erupted in a Burien neighborhood yesterday when a car, driven by a man in his 20s, careened into not one, but two homes, prompting a massive emergency response, FOX 13 Seattle reported. The incident occurred on South 120th Street near Military Road South, when the vehicle abruptly left the roadway, the King County Sheriff's Office confirmed, with deputies responding to the 2400 block of South 121st Street at around 2:30 PM.
KIRO 7's coverage adds that the car seemingly launched off a curb before wreaking havoc on the residential structures, marking a serious escalation to the ongoing traffic issues that locals in the area have reported, one of the crucial details the neighbors like Lakieva Jerome and Kollasch have both witnessed and experienced prior incidences where vehicles ended up on their property yet never inside the homes until this alarming event unfolded before the community's very eyes.
The neighborhood has been no stranger to traffic disturbances, and the residents' calls for enhanced safety measures may reach a critical tipping point. "They maybe need to implement speed bumps," Jerome suggested, in remarks to KOMO News, after witnessing the shattered remnants of what used to be a barrier meant to protect her domain from the chaos of the streets, the site of the recent crash bearing witness to a persistent problem. While the driver was detained following the incident, the community's sense of security may remain compromised until tangible changes are made.
For Kollasch, a resident who's endured the unsettling experience of watching drivers land on his property at least six times, the event became a jarring nudge toward reconsideration of his living situation, "I think we’re seriously considering moving now," he confided with KOMO News, as accident after accident chips away at the fond memories built within his home; the crash signifying a possible final tipping point for him and possibly others in the community who are fed up with the repeated disruption and damage caused by such incidents.
