This summer, the Cabarrus County Public Library System is set to launch their Summer Reading Program with a vibrant "Color Our World" theme. Starting June 2, residents across various ages can join to celebrate art, creativity, and self-expression. According to a news release by the Cabarrus County website, a series of events and activities will be hosted at local library branches through August 2, with the reading program extending until August 15.
As part of the program, participants have the chance to not only log their reading hours but also to earn badges. They will be able to quickly scan book barcodes, track their total minutes read with timed sessions, and view personal reading statistics through the free Beanstack app or website. "I think our staff has really embraced this year’s theme and made it special," Chrystopher Lytal, the Library System’s marketing and communications coordinator, told the Cabarrus County website. He also mentioned that they’re looking forward "to creating art and celebrating our patrons’ self-expression," highlighting the program’s focus on building community around the joy of reading and creating.
Last year, the initiative saw significant participation with 2,949 individuals logging over 2.46 million minutes of reading and completing nearly 4,000 activities. This year, the challenge is designed to be flexible, allowing participants to complete the program by solely logging reading time or by combining their reading with the program's art and craft activities. Prizes will be awarded at different stages throughout the challenge to keep readers engaged and motivated.
Those interested in partaking in this year's reading adventure can start to sign up and prepare to immerse in an array of literary and creative activities. With visits from local artists and performances expected, the program promises to offer diverse experiences to all attendees. As Lytal emphasized, the library is eager "to creating art and celebrating our patrons’ self-expression," positioning the library as a central hub for community engagement this summer, as per Cabarrus County.
