Carrollton is charging its parks department with a new eco-friendly initiative about going green—and we're not just talking about the grass. The City has launched its first all-electric mowing crew, determined to keep the community's parks and facilities trim without leaving a trail of emissions. The program will introduce a pair of equipment operators and seasonal employees, who will tackle their mowing duties in a wrapped electric truck, complete with a trailer rigged to power up two electric mowers and a range of handheld devices.

With the ability to charge their gear at the maintenance facility overnight and a built-in system for recharging in the field, these mowing mavens will have all the juice they need to sustain day-long operations. According to Parks Manager Kim Bybee, Carrollton's decisions to incorporate electric mowers were based on the successful inclusion of autonomous mowers back in 2023, which led to increased efficiency. "This is a huge initiative for the City," Bybee told the City of Carrollton's newsroom.

Scattered across their weekly itinerary, the electric crew will cover impressive turf, including City Hall, Municipal Court, Police Headquarters, and various recreation centers. Bybee highlighted the crew's role in pushing Carrollton towards a sustainable future. "By creating Parks' first all-electric Plug & Play Mowing Crew for the City's professional buildings," Bybee said, per the City of Carrollton news release, noting the city's past purchases of six low-noise, emissions-free autonomous mowers for athletic field upkeep.
