A Spectrum employee was left in critical condition following a collision with an SUV in Cary last night. The workers were attending to duties on the side of the road when the incident occurred at the intersection of Kit Creek Road and Green Level Church Road, as reported by WRAL.
The Cary Police Department, responding to the emergency call around 10:20 p.m., arrived promptly to find the Spectrum worker seriously injured. The driver of the SUV, identified as Juanita Ramirez, was arrested on multiple charges. Court documents, according to a CBS 17 report, indicate Ramirez has been unsuccessfully charged to maintain lane control leading up to the crash and registered a blood alcohol concentration of 0.18 on a breath test – over twice the legal limit.
The injured worker was quickly taken to a nearby hospital to receive medical treatment. Meanwhile, Ramirez faces serious charges including felony serious injury by vehicle, driving while impaired, reckless and careless driving, failure to reduce speed, and failure to maintain lane control.
Investigations by the Cary Police Department into the tragic incident remain active. The department announced through a news release that their preliminary findings point towards the Spectrum employee being hit while working beside the roadway.
