U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Marcelino Serna Port of Entry in Tornillo, Texas made a significant drug bust recently, intercepting a substantial amount of cocaine. Last Friday, agents discovered 28.5 pounds of cocaine stashed in a vehicle, according to the CBP official release. The narcotics were concealed inside a 2013 Nissan Titan driven by a 25-year-old woman who is a U.S. citizen.
The seizure occurred during the afternoon when the vehicle was singled out for a closer look by the officers. A drug-sniffing dog brought in by CBP signaled the presence of the substances, leading officers to find 14 foil-wrapped bundles hidden away in the vehicle's wheel well and dashboard. "This is a significant amount of cocaine that did not reach its intended destination," Eric Fernandez, the port director, expressed in a statement released by the CBP Newsroom.
Tests conducted on the contents of the packages confirmed that the substance was indeed cocaine. The driver of the Nissan was arrested on the spot and has been handed over to the Texas Department of Public Safety to face state charges in relation to the failed smuggling attempt. "Every drug load that CBP stops plays a role in keeping our communities, and neighbors safe," Fernandez stated, as reported by the CBP Newsroom.
