Customs and Border Protection officers at Del Rio Port of Entry intercepted a significant haul of cocaine last week, seizing an estimated $930,000 worth of the drug. The seizure happened last Friday at the Del Rio International Bridge, when officers decided to take a closer look at a Chevrolet Captiva, being driven by a 75-year-old Mexican citizen. After a referral for a secondary inspection, which included the use of a nonintrusive inspection system, staff discovered 32 packages of alleged cocaine hidden in the vehicle's seats.

"This significant narcotic seizure emphasizes the steadfast commitment our officers have to keeping our community safe," Port Director Liliana Flores said in a statement released by the CBP official website. "These types of seizures reinforce the importance of CBP’s mission to secure our borders."

According to the CBP news release, the drugs weighed in at 69.71 pounds. Following the findings, Customs and Border Protection officers proceeded to seize the narcotics. Subsequently, the Texas Department of Public Safety took over, arresting the driver and initiating a criminal investigation into the incident.
