Tomorrow, the city of Charlotte is set to honor international ties and altruistic endeavors at the 27th Mayor’s International Community Awards. The event, hosted at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center's Booth Playhouse, recognizes efforts that have significantly contributed to the city's global engagement and the philanthropic achievements of foreign-owned businesses. Mayor Vi Lyles emphasized the diverse influence powering Charlotte's growth, saying, “Charlotte is shaped by the talent, innovation, and generosity of people from around the world,” according to a statement obtained by City of Charlotte. Celebrations not only acknowledge individual efforts but also the international firms that have made a noteworthy difference in the community.

Award recipients this year include the volunteer group Mountains of Hope, which will receive the Richard Vinroot International Achievement Award. Comprising volunteers from over a dozen countries, they played a pivotal role in responding to Hurricane Helene's destruction in Western North Carolina. Another individual, Lihong Yu, will be honored with the CIC International Entrepreneur Award for her journey growing a $5,000 venture into a global chemical manufacturing enterprise. Furthermore, Johnelle Causwell is slated to receive the Global Leader Award for her work in forging Charlotte's international economic connections.

The business sector will also see three foreign-owned firms receive accolades for their contributions to the Charlotte area. Schaeffler Group USA Inc., with its robust operations and innovative apprenticeship programs, takes the prize in the Large Company Category. On the other hand, HUBER Technology US receives the award in the Medium Company Category for their role in water management technology and community sustainability efforts. The Small Company Category recognizes ATG ADVISORS for their dedicated work in financial literacy and cultural inclusion among the local immigrant community.

These awards serve as a fitting highlight within Charlotte Small Business Month, a steadfast reminder that the tapestry of a community is often woven with threads from, and made to significantly strengthen, connections that reach far beyond its borders.
