The City of Charlotte has officially adopted the Strategic Energy Action Plan Plus (SEAP+), an updated version of its 2018 energy strategy aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting clean energy. City officials confirmed the adoption last night.
As per the City of Charlotte, SEAP+ introduces a new climate risk assessment component, expanding the original plan to address a broader range of climate-related challenges. The update was developed through public surveys, input from a Technical Advisory Committee, and community engagement events.
The plan continues to focus on key areas such as Buildings, Energy Generation, and Transportation, and adds a new Cross Sectional category to address other environmental factors. Workforce development is also a major focus of the updated strategy.
Residents are encouraged to support the plan through everyday actions like biking, using public transportation, improving home energy efficiency, and practicing sustainable lawn care.
To ensure transparency, the city has published a SEAP+ overview video and provides ongoing updates through an interactive dashboard available on its website. This tool allows residents to track progress and stay informed.
Mayor Vi Lyles stated in the City of Charlotte release, “SEAP+ adoption is another strong step toward our goal of becoming a global leader in environmental sustainability,” and emphasized the city’s continued focus on meeting its climate goals.
