The National Weather Service (NWS) at Charlotte, N.C., reports a mix of sun and clouds with a current temperature of 65°F and humidity at a sticky 78%. Due to a barometric pressure of 30.11 in (1020.2 mb) and a dewpoint of 58°F, visibility stands clear at 10 miles, as of their last update at 6:52 am EDT, NWS states.
Looking ahead, today's forecast anticipates mostly sunny skies, and, a high near 87 with that southwest wind picking up between 6 to 11 mph — gusts might make hats a bad choice, peaking at 21 mph. Nightfall doesn't bring too much change; it'll stay partly cloudy as temps dip to a comfortable low around 65, with a consistent south wind around 7 mph.
Change is coming this Friday, however. The NWS predicts "a slight chance of showers between 11am and 2 pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm." Despite the potential for rain, temperatures will remain high with near 84 degrees. And the winds continue, a south southwest flow at 7 to 10 mph with chances for gusts as powerful as 20 mph. Yet, the chance of precipitation remains at a modest 30%.
For those planning weekend activities, keep your umbrellas handy. Saturday's chances of precipitation hit 60%, with showers likely and a possible thunderstorm after 4 pm. That familiar south southwest wind persists, 7 to 11 mph with gusts reaching up to 22 mph. Sunday cools down, topping near 75, yet that 40 percent chance of showers remains a pesky guest. The clouds and chances for showers gently taper off into the early week, but more showers might pop up after 10 am on Monday, according to NWS.
The NWS has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the region for isolated strong to severe thunderstorms, mainly across the mountains with potential for damaging wind gusts, and large hail. "Spotters are requested to forward any reports of large hail and damaging winds to our office," the outlook advises. As of now, no other hazardous weather is expected from Friday through Wednesday.
