In an unanticipated misstep, several Cobb County residents have been sent voter precinct cards with incorrect information. The Cobb County Elections and Registration Office acknowledged the error, which has affected residents in nine of the county's 148 precincts. A clerical mistake during the address data transfer was to blame for precinct cards showing up at the wrong addresses. The office is actively to correct the issue by mailing out new cards by the week's end.
"Our office is working with our vendor to send corrected cards to affected households," said Elections Director Tate Fall, according to Cobb County’s official news release. The precinct cards were intended to inform voters of changes to their polling places in anticipation of the remaining elections this year. Officials were quick to clarify that the erroneous cards, while showing incorrect names, do not imply that the listed voters are registered at the wrongly indicated addresses.
Amid concerns, the Elections and Registration Office assured voters that a precinct change card is purely informational and cannot be used as a form of identification when voting. For clarity, they also provided a rundown of the affected precincts, including the previously used facilities and their new names and locations. This list, including facilities like Covenant Presbyterian Church and Linked Up Church, has been made available to ensure voters are well informed of where their new polling locations are situated.
The elections office urges voters to take a moment to verify their actual polling places on the Georgia My Voter Page. Meanwhile, they are working to minimize any confusion that may arise from this mix-up. With new precinct cards set to arrive shortly for those impacted, the office aims to swiftly resolve the issue and prevent it from affecting voter turnout or confidence in the electoral process.
