As Police Week 2025 unfolds in the District of Columbia, those trying to navigate the city are going to need to pay close attention to the changes in traffic patterns. According to a recent release from the Metropolitan Police Department, a number of streets will see parking restrictions and closures from Sunday, May 11, until this Saturday, May 17. Commuters, residents, and visitors alike should plan for delays and detours.
For anyone who needs to park downtown, take note: F Street and E Street between 4th and 5th Streets NW are going to be no-go zones for parking from Sunday, May 11, to Friday, May 16. In addition to those two stretches—already designated as emergency no-parking zones—the restrictions will also apply to the 400 blocks of F and G Streets NW, as well as portions of 4th, 3rd, and 7th Streets NW, and sections of Maryland and Potomac Avenues.
Today, will see additional temporary no-parking signs popping up. Madison Drive and Jefferson Drive, between 3rd and 14th Streets, NW/SW will be clear of parked cars for 24 hours. Residents, commuters, and visitors to the nation's capital are encouraged to plan ahead for alternative parking options or consider using public transit during the restrictions.
The District of Columbia Police Department has already marked off parts of Madison Drive, from 3rd Street to 7th Street, NW, and Jefferson Drive, from 3rd Street to 7th Street, SW for emergency no parking, affecting the flow around the National Mall and probably spillover traffic into the surrounding areas.
The full list of streets affected by the parking restrictions and closures is available through the official MPDC notice. City officials and the police department encourage everyone to check out the details to avoid any unnecessary headaches or tickets during this event-packed week. Stay tuned for any updates or changes to traffic advisories as the week progresses, and explore alternative routes or modes of transportation when possible.
