Dallas residents can expect a week peppered with thunderstorms and warm temperatures, according to a recent forecast by the National Weather Service. Starting with a scorching weekend, a high of about 95 degrees accompanied by a heat index reaching up to 99 degrees means locals should prepare for some potentially oppressive heat throughout Saturday.
The situation will cool slightly during the night, with temperatures dipping to a low around 75 degrees, but the wind won't offer much respite, gusting up to 25 mph. Sunday promises similar conditions, with a high near 94 degrees and persistent south winds. As mentioned in a forecast, these temperature trends are a classic prelude to the thunderstorms anticipated to start Sunday evening, per the National Weather Service.
These brewing storms mark a soggy shift for Memorial Day, with an 80 percent chance of precipitation and possibly a thunderstorm hitting a high near 85 degrees. Dallas can expect showers to extend into Monday evening, with the likelihood of thunderstorms occurring before and after 10pm. Overnight lows are forecast to drop to around 68 degrees, providing a slight break from the daytime heat.
The pattern of intermittent showers and thunderstorms is set to continue through the week. Tuesday may see more storms, with a 50 percent chance of rain and mostly cloudy skies holding a high near 83 degrees. The chance for rain doesn't relent much throughout the midweek, tapering off to a 30 percent chance of showers by next Friday. "Showers and thunderstorms likely before 10pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 10pm," adds the National Weather Service forecast for Monday night, indicating a somewhat predictable pattern for the coming days.
Dallasites should keep umbrellas close at hand and remain prepared for sudden weather shifts, as daily chances of rain range from 30 to 50 percent through next week. Although no severe weather alerts have been issued as of yet, the routine forecast of "a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms" for next Thursday and Friday suggests that any outdoor plans should remain flexible during this period of variable weather conditions.
