Danny Meyer's Union Square Hospitality Group, well-known for its significant presence in New York's dining scene, is set to debut its first Boston-area restaurant, but it's Cambridge that will have the honor of hosting the inaugural opening. The opening of Daily Provisions in Harvard Square has now been confirmed to happen before the expansion into Boston's Seaport District, aiming to welcome its first customers this summer. The chosen spot, situated at 1 Brattle Square, aims to fully embrace the vibrant and storied neighborhood, with its rich blend of residents, students, and international visitors.
Daily Provisions President Zach Koff highlighted the compatibility of Harvard Square with the Daily Provisions concept, stating in an email that "Harvard Square is one of the country's celebrated neighborhoods," and the cafe is designed to serve as an authentic neighborhood hangout. Meyer's decision to expand here signifies a calculated step to integrate into the fabric of one of Cambridge's most active communities. As reported by Eater Boston, customers can "expect all the hits" that have made Daily Provisions a favorite in New York City including "the excellent breakfast sandwiches with thick slabs of bacon, juicy roast chicken, and the widely sought-after French crullers."
Alongside these classic offerings, Koff teased the possibility of Boston-specific menu items, details of which are still under wraps. And while the food will certainly be a cornerstone of its success, whether alcohol will be served at the new establishment akin to its counterpart in the Seaport District remains unknown. The Seaport location is not only set to follow suit featuring similar menu options but will also include beer and wine, as noted in a previous report from bostonrestaurants.blogspot.com.
Meyer and his group are not shy in terms of expansion, with another outlet of Daily Provisions also planned to quickly open in Washington, D.C. during the same season, marking continued growth beyond their New York home turf. While Harvard Square already hosts a slew of dining establishments, including another New York transplant, Joe's Pizza, Meyer's latest venture seems poised to add its unique flair to the bustling square's mix, certainly hoping to capture the interest of the Harvard community and Cambridge locals alike.
