Travis Fowler, a 25-year-old from DeLand, was arrested in a shooting incident that left a 16-year-old boy with a grazed head wound, according to the Volusia Sheriff's Office. Fowler is charged with attempted murder, among other offenses. The teenage victim, who was returning home from a graduation party with his family, is currently recovering. ClickOrlando reported that the shots were fired around 12:30 a.m. on a Sunday near the 1700 block of North Woodland Boulevard.
The investigation led to Fowler following a review of video surveillance footage, which showed him firing at another individual after an altercation. A round discharged from Fowler's firearm subsequently entered a passing vehicle, injuring the teen. Moreover, detectives uncovered Fowler's identity through a gas station transaction where he had used his EBT card. WESH noted that this evidence played a key role in tracking him down.
Fowler, who resides in an apartment complex near the scene of the crime, was apprehended last night. Law enforcement observed him driving a vehicle with an incorrect tag outside his apartment complex. Upon their interrogation, Fowler initially claimed he was in Orlando during the time of the incident. However, detectives countered his claim by revealing the footage placing him at a DeLand gas station before the shooting, said the sheriff’s office, according to ClickOrlando.
Currently, Fowler is being held without bond at the Volusia County Branch Jail.
