Denver city folks, mark your calendars and rearrange your errands—the city is taking a day off on May 26th for Memorial Day. The City and County of Denver will have most of its doors closed, including the Mayor’s Office, City Council offices, and even the Auditor’s Office. Denver's Department of Transportation & Infrastructure permit counters and the Parking Magistrate’s Office will also join the downtime day.
While you won't get to renew your driver's license or chat with city staffers in person, some services remain a click away. Residents can still apply for building permits or check out Denver's online library resources even with the buildings out of commission. And if you're hitting the links, Denver's golf courses will be open, weather permitting, because not all traditions bow to federal holidays. Though the 3-1-1 information line won’t answer your calls, you can still report issues via the city website or chat with Denver’s new chatbot, Sunny, by texting "Hi" to 439311, as the City of Denver’s news release mentions.
Essential services such as Denver Health and emergency responders from the Denver Sheriff, Police, and Fire departments will be in action, ensuring the city's safety net stays up and running. Sworn members of these departments "will report for duty Monday, May 26 as well," the city's news release assured in its statement. For any animal emergencies, animal protection officers can be reached at 911, even though the Denver Animal Shelter will take a pause.
Environmental buffs and eager taxpayers may have to wait a day, as the Department of Environmental Health and the Taxpayer Service Center join the list of closures. Trash, recycling, and compost collection services won't be making their rounds, pushing collection services back a day for the rest of the week.
