The arrival of the gear is slated within the upcoming ten weeks.
According to the Denver Police Department, Vested Interest in K9s, having started its efforts in 2009, aims to supply American-made, custom-fitted, and National Institute of Justice (NIJ) certified body armor that can potentially save the lives of K9 officers across the United States. More than 6,030 vests valued at approximately $6.9 million have been provided to dogs in various law enforcement roles to date, spanning all 50 states, a testament to the extensive support from both private individuals and corporations.
The protective vests, which are estimated at a value of $1,800 each and come with a five-year warranty, are not only a formidable shield but are also relatively lightweight at 4-5 pounds, mitigating the impact on a K9's agility and movement. Any active, certified K9 at least 20 months of age and affiliated with law enforcement or related agencies in the U.S. can be enrolled in the program offered by Vested Interest in K9s, and even those with expired vests are eligible to receive replacements.
