According to the Denver Police Department, the victim was alerted by their garage security camera in the early morning hours of Saturday, only to discover on review that unknown suspects infiltrated their significant other’s vehicle, snagged a garage door opener, and then proceeded to pilfer approximately $700 worth of tools from the garage.
The method of entry was all too simple a vehicle left parked on the street becoming a gateway to grander crimes and indeed, there lies the warning to the wider community: "DON'T GIVE THIEVES AN OPENING," the Denver Police Department advises, underscoring the ease with which culprits can escalate a small oversight into significant loss. The Denver Police went on to offer some straightforward advice to help sidestep such burglaries: homeowners should remove garage door openers from vehicles parked outside, ensure all car doors are firmly locked, and park in areas bathed in light or within the trusty gaze of security cameras.
While investigators are busy trying to bring the thieves to justice, the Department's intent with the message is clear: prevention is preferable to the cure of criminal pursuit, according to the Denver Police Department.
