The Motor City is gearing up for a transit transformation, as the Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT) kicks off its first-ever Federal Transit Administration (FTA) - Transportation Safety Institute (TSI) Instructors Course for Transit Trainers. The event, which started on Monday, is taking place at the agency's Main Office and aims to equip its trainers with cutting-edge educational methods tailored to the transit industry.
Participants in this novel program come from an array of urban landscapes, such as AC Transit in the Bay Area, Boston's Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, and Metro from Los Angeles, joining forces to position DDOT at the vanguard of transportation safety and service.
According to a statement by the City of Detroit, Chief Safety Officer Corie Holmes underscored the significance of this initiative, stating, "By investing in our instructors, we are investing in the safety and quality of service for all Detroiters who rely on public transit each and every day." The training will instill a profound culture of safety and accountability that DDOT hopes will lead to reduced accidents, sharpened operator acumen, and a marked enhancement of the customer experience.
