Outdoor enthusiasts and wildlife aficionados have a reason to celebrate as the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) announces the reopening of Muddy Bayou and Sandy Bayou Roads on Dewey W. Wills Wildlife Management Area (WMA). The roads, within the beloved WMA that spans the southern reaches of LaSalle and Catahoula parishes, are once again welcoming visitors as floodwaters have receded, allowing for necessary repairs and ensuring the paths are safe for travel.
Located approximately 20 miles northeast of Alexandria, Dewey W. Wills WMA is a habitat for a diverse array of wildlife. Hunters and nature lovers can once again pursue game species such as deer, squirrel, rabbit, raccoon, waterfowl, and woodcock, that thrive across its verdant landscape. The LDWF's swift action in managing the flood impact highlights a commitment to preserving not only the wildlife but also the human connection to these natural spaces.
Before heading to Dewey W. Wills WMA, visitors should be aware of the requisite permissions necessary for access. According to official statements, all visitors must have either a WMA Access Permit, Senior Hunting/Fishing License, Louisiana Sportsman’s Paradise License, or a Lifetime Hunting/Fishing License. Ensuring compliance with these regulations not only aligns with legal requirements but underpins a collective effort to sustainably manage and fund conservation efforts.
